DP Technology’s Esprit CAM software enables manufacturers to streamline their workflows and reduce silo formation, according to the company. It contributes to increased tool life and machine usage and improves access to practical knowledge for process improvement.
The software enables the creation of a digital twin of a machine tool for slot milling cutters programming and simulation. The twin displays on-screen the processes that occur on the shop floor. Workpieces and cutting tools are set up virtually, resulting in precise simulations and improved productivity and tool paths.
The software also connects workflow steps, from CAD design to finished part, with a digital thread to make sure that no manufacturing process becomes siloed. The thread reads part data from CAD software and creates G code and setup sheets. It then passes this data on to enterprise resource Carbide Turning Inserts planning software.
Machine-aware CAM programming is said to increase tool life and reduce cycle times. The software’s ProfitMilling and ProfitTurning applications consider the machine tool’s axis positions and limits, acceleration capabilities and attainable cutting speeds to increase machine speed and improve surface finishes. The applications enable users to make better toolpath choices.

SolidCAM Inc, the provider of the Solid Platform for Manufacturing, will be demonstrating the performance of its SolidCAM software toolpath at their largest booth yet. Attendees will see LIVE CNC cutting on Five-Axis, Multi-Channel Mill-Turn and Swiss-Type CNC machines.
The company says its iMachining technology increase efficiency, leading to a 70% reduction in machining time and increased tool life. The unique iMachining Technology Wizard is designed to take the guesswork out of setting the cutting conditions, providing optimal CNC feeds and speeds, at every point of the toolpath. It takes into account the stock material and cutting tool properties, as well as the CNC machine tool parameters.
The company says shoulder milling cutters its focus is on understanding and eliminating the challenges that most CNC machinists and programmers experience. Kennametal’s KBH10B and KBH20B grades, designed for hard turning, are available in double-sided inserts for materials as hard as 65 HRC. The polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) grades are specially designed to deliver higher productivity and longer tool life when turning tool steels and other hardened materials, according to the company.
Robert Keilmann, turning product manager, says that the inserts are ideal for "high-volume production of hardened gears, shafts, bearings, housings and other drivetrain components, where tooling cost per part is an important metric.”
Various features are said to surface milling cutters make the PCBN mini-tipped inserts cost-effective for turning hardened steel components. A ceramic binder structure and TiN/TiAlN/TiN coating provide extreme wear resistance even at elevated cutting speeds, the company says. A gold PVD coating makes it easier to identify when an insert needs indexing, while the numbered corners ensure that a machine operator does not inadvertently switch to a used edge. Two edge preparations in a "trumpet-style” hone the inserts for heavier and interrupted cuts, while a light hone prepares the inserts for continuous turning. Both inserts are free-cutting, extending tool life and generating surface tube process inserts finish values as low as 0.2 Ra. The PCBN mini tips are offered in four insert shapes — three rhomboidal and one triangular — which provide up to six cutting edges per insert.

Methods Machine Tools is holding an open house for manufacturing professionals at its Technology Center in Tempe, Arizona, November 5 and 6. Methods experts will be on hand to discuss manufacturers' application requirements, and visitors will be able to view tooling, workholding, software and probing technology products being displayed by participating companies.
Several precision machines will be under power, including the Yasda YMC 430 Ver. II micromachining center for medical and semiconductor applications; the Nakamura-Tome AS-200 high-performance multitasking turning center TNGG Insert featuring a single spindle and single turret; and the KMH-300 A direct-drive, 40-taper, 300-mm dual-pallet machine offering 15,000 rpm. In addition, the FANUC C600iA RoboCut wire EDM with a CNC FANUC Series 31i-WB control will be demonstrating new capabilities including volumetric taper compensation with four-axis over-burn control (TPCMP), and the FANUC RoboDrill D21iL long bed VMC will be equipped with a 24,000-rpm spindle dual-pallet changer and a new controller from FANUC.
Additional machines to be displayed include the Feeler HV-1000 40-taper, 15,000-rpm VMC; the Feeler FTC-100 slant-bed CNC turning center with a high-precision 6,000-rpm, 15-hp spindle motor for heavy cutting; the Citizen Swiss L20 type Xii turning center; a Current EDM drilling machine; and metrology solutions including the VisionGauge digital optical CNC Carbide Inserts comparator 500 and 400 series.

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced its new Norton for Aluminum Thin Wheels for right-angle cutting and WNMG Insert grinding of aluminum and other non-ferrous soft metals. The wheels features extra-friable and self-sharpening aluminum-oxide grain and specialized bond technology. The new wheels are said to offer aggressive, fast cutting which resists loading and minimizes heat on the workpiece, providing consistent, long-lasting wheel performance.
Norton for Aluminum wheels include a 5/8"- 11" hub for quick, tool-free wheel changes. Helping to keep metal surfaces clean for defect-free, corrosion-free welding, the new wheels have a contaminate-free bond which does not need any waxes or lubricants. Additionally, a double coarse Shoulder Milling Inserts layer construction adds versatility and life on applications such as back-grinding and notching. According to the company, the Norton for Aluminum wheels’ construction is strong and safe, exceeding ANSI and international safety standards.

Kyocera SGS Precision Tools has expanded its H-Carb seven-flute, high-efficiency end mill series with an array of larger corner radii options.
The H-Carb SEER Insert Series 77 end mills specialize in deep axial trochoidal and high-speed machining applications and are offered in various lengths of cut. The specialized core and flute design improve rigidity and chip flow while reducing deflection. The seven-flute design is designed to enable superior finishes at higher speed and feed rates versus five- and six-flute tools.
The H-Carb portfolio now includes 72 new tools featuring 2-, 3- and 4-mm corner radius sizes and are available in three lengths of cut (2.5×D, 3×D and 4×D). Coatings are available in Ti-namite-A and Ti-namite-M, making them suitable for dry machining in ferrous-based materials such as cast irons and numerous carbon steels. Suhner introduces a redesigned version of its BEX15 machining unit, increasing spindle speed from 18,000 to 23,000 rpm for applications like small-diameter hole drilling or cutting metals with high cutting speed requirements. The spindle speed improvement is the result of a complete redesign of drive and spindle bearing components. A different style of timing belt drive increases the spindle motor speed to 13,050 rpm, and an AC inverter drive multiplies the spindle speed to 23,000 rpm at 87 Hz. The machining unit can be applied in axial or radial orientation, directly mounted to a Suhner slide-assembly-type UA15-PH or UA15-CNC. The unit can perform milling or demanding jump- or peck-feed drilling cycles when configured EDJ Grooving in this way, the company says.
The unit includes four optional toolholder systems (collet ER25, ISO-30, HSK-50 and Weldon) as well as standard air purge connections for Surface Milling Inserts spindle and belt housing. Additional options such as through-coolant and automatic tool-change features are also available.

When the river is down in pool stage there is current flowing between the 3 breakers. Channel and flaheads are caught along those 2 spots.
On the Kentucky side of the Ohio you can fish the mouth of the Licking River. Both Newport and Covington have palces for bank fishing. The Newport bank is on the steep side and can be slippery if there is any rain or heavy due. The channel of the Licking River is very close to the Newport bank so a long cast is not required to get to the deeper water. Most of the folks that fish there cast their lines into the Licking River. You can also fish right at the South end of the Cental bridge. Park your car at the lot below the Riverboat Row street and fish right at the bank. There is a lot of riprap extending from the bank so you can get snagged.
You can park your car on the street then walkdown the steps at the Covington spot. The bank is level with sand and gravel so it is easy to walk. You can either fish the Ohio Or Licking at that area. I know there are channels and flatheads in that area. I have been told Blue cats also have been landed there.

Under the situation that the international molybdenum price is adjusted sideways and the new round of tendering activities for steel mills has not yet begun, molybdenum chemical companies are relatively weak in raising prices, and supported by production costs, the willingness to sell at lower prices is also low.
